“The President’s proposed cuts to critical education programs are deeply problematic for state and district leaders working towards equity and excellence for all students. The elimination of funding for key programs such as ESSA Title II-A threatens to undo progress in innovative efforts that support school and teacher leaders. While we welcome the proposed funding increase for charter schools and other school choice initiatives that benefit some families, many of these cuts undermine broader efforts to provide a top-notch education to all students. We urge Congress to ensure the FY19 spending bill preserves the programs that have been instrumental to boosting achievement in our school systems.”
