Chiefs for Change released the following statement today in response to news that Scott Muri, superintendent of Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston, has been named the lone finalist for the job of superintendent of Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas.
Scott Muri has devoted his life to creating excellent schools that meet the needs of every child. A champion for equity and excellence, he has led bold, new efforts to redesign schools in ways that challenge students, expand their thinking, and promote continuous learning. The district’s T-2-4 initiative helps to ensure that students graduate with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life, and he has worked to support and empower teachers by giving them the resources they need to do their best work in the classroom. With a belief in “collective greatness,” Scott has done some of the most important work in the nation to foster productive district-charter partnerships that benefit all students. He has made a difference in the lives of countless children in Spring Branch ISD. We have no doubt that he will do the same in Odessa.
